Well, it’s settled, Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder have chosen Ben Affleck to don the cape and cowl for Batman vs. Superman, the upcoming Man of Steel sequel which will hit theatres on July 17th, 2015.

Check out what Snyder and Warner Bros. had to say about the casting choice below:

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” said WB’s president of production Greg Silverman. “His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him,” says Snyder.

Of course, this raises many questions, such as what will this mean for Affleck’s directing career, which is just starting to take off? Also, how many films is Affleck expected to appear in as the Caped Crusader? This is no doubt a huge commitment for the actor and will likely eat up a lot of his time over the next few years. What does that mean for the other projects that he’s currently attached to?

It’s still early days on this one but as soon as we hear more, we’ll be sure to let you know. Personally, I’m not totally against this choice but there are several other candidates who I think would have been a better option. I’d rather see Affleck stick to directing films. After all, the last time he suited up as a superhero we got Daredevil. In all fairness though, Big Ben is still a great actor and I’m happy for him. Hopefully the fanboys feel the same way.

Tell us, what do you think of Ben Affleck playing Batman in Batman vs. Superman? Are you happy with the choice? Or is there someone else you wanted for the role?
