Black Widow Gets The John Wick Treatment In Slick Fan Poster

One talented Redditor has produced a rather slick, neon-drenched poster for Marvel's long-anticipated Black Widow spinoff movie.

Natalia Alianovna Romanoff is finally – finally – about to spearhead a Marvel standalone movie of her own.

Otherwise known as the famous (and deadly!) Black Widow, news of a Romanoff-centric spinoff first brought the Internet to a standstill late last week, when it was revealed that Marvel had enlisted Jac Schaeffer to hash out a script.

Details are still few and far between, but there are already signs of tangible progress, as Marvel Studios looks to capitalize on its biggest female star. And not a moment too soon.

Scarlett Johansson’s former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent arguably enjoyed her best material in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Joe and Anthony Russo’s sequel that was steeped in the rich history of ’60s espionage. Taking that into consideration, we’re inclined to believe that the (R-rated?) Black Widow offshoot will double down on the character’s murky history as an ex-Soviet spy. And in honor of that legacy, one Redditor has served up a stunning piece of fan art that imagines Marvel’s female-fronted spinoff in the style of John Wick. Yes, that John Wick.

From a visual standpoint, it’s a sleek, if generic tease of what’s in store. That faint, neon purple hue has been popping up all over Hollywood (see: Blade Runner 2049, Moonlight, Atomic Blonde) ever since John Wick delivered a taut, beautiful revenge thriller in 2014, so don’t be too surprised if it informs the tone and style of Black Widow – a character who typically straddles the fine line between espionage and action – when the time comes.

One way or another, Black Widow is part of the super-sized character roster for Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel (read: Avengers 4), which, when pulled together, have the potential to become one of the “biggest things in film history.” Or so says Chris Hemsworth.
