They’re one of Hollywood’s most indomitable power couples, but Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie haven’t actually shared the screen since Doug Liman’s sizzling 2005 romantic comedy actioner Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which found the two facing off as married assassins hired to kill one another. Now, we’re hearing that they may be teaming up again to star in a film that was written by Jolie.
No news yet on a title or specific plot, though some rumors swirling around the web indicate that the project is a romantic drama centring on a couple who, in the midst of severe relationship turbulence, opt to get away for a vacation in hopes of rescuing their marriage. Jolie wrote the script for that untitled project a few years back, but there is no official confirmation that the movie Pitt and Jolie are currently aiming to star in is at all related.
Still, it’s exciting to hear that the power couple, who fell for each other on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith and have captivated media outlets ever since, are interested in re-teaming on the big screen. The pair previously stated that they would never take on projects at the same time, so as not to abandon their children, but working together sounds like a neat way to get around that.
No director is currently attached, and it’s unclear whether Jolie is also interested in helming the film. She previously directed Bosnian War romance drama In the Land of Blood and Honey, which received mixed reviews but still snagged a Golden Globe nom for Best Foreign Language Film. She is also currently in post-production on her sophomore directorial effort Unbroken, a World War II true history drama about the ordeal of Louis Zamperini.
