New Bumblebee Trailer Gives First Look At Optimus Prime And Soundwave

After five increasingly exhausting pictures from Michael Bay, the new Bumblebee spinoff movie could be the fresh start that this franchise needs, but so long as Paramount aren’t hitting the reset button on Transformers, Travis Knight’s film still exists within the continuity of its widely disparaged predecessors.

It therefore makes sense that the yellow Volkswagen Beetle won’t be the only giant robot to feature in the upcoming sci-fi. Indeed, it was already confirmed that head honcho Optimus Prime would have a part in the film, and now he makes an appearance in this new teaser, along with Decepticons Soundwave, Ravage, Shatter, and Dropkick.

The short promo below is one of two new clips dropped for Bumblebee this weekend, with the other one focusing on the bot’s relationship with his new friend Charlie Watson, played by Hailee Steinfeld.

Honestly, while fans may be keen to see some more Transformers action on the big screen, the human aspect of this story is so far shaping up to be the more compelling part. After the Bay movies subjected us to such obnoxious flesh-and-blood characters as Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky, surely this franchise owes us a lead that we can actually root for, and Steinfeld certainly has the talent to deliver.

Though we’ve previously heard talk that Optimus himself could be getting a spinoff, it’s still hard to say where the Transformers series will go from here. After the relatively underwhelming box office returns of The Last Knight, this next movie suggests a transition to smaller-scaled action, and lord knows, both viewers and their eardrums might welcome the change of pace.

We’ll see if Bumblebee can help reinvigorate this worn out franchise when it hits theaters on December 21st, 2018.
