Caliban Gears Up For The Desert In New Logan Pic

Stephen Merchant's Caliban is a cloaked, lonely figure in today's new Logan pic. Expect James Mangold's R-rated action to bow in March.

Perhaps in fear of overexposure, Fox’s steady stream of monotone Logan photos has all but dried up as we approach the year’s end, with the close-up portrait of Richard E. Grant’s nefarious Dr. Zander Rice being one of the last to emerge online.

That’s not to say that the studio’s marketing push has finished prematurely, only that there’s only so much of a movie that can be shared before unintentionally treading into spoiler territory. Thankfully, this brand new Logan pic keeps that sense of mystery intact, showcasing Stephen Merchant’s Caliban – a character who briefly appeared in X-Men: Apocalypse earlier this year – by geared up and ready for the Wild West. First spotted by CBM, Merchant’s ambiguous character is still sporting the desert outfit glimpsed in the threequel’s first trailer, but it’s his mutant ability that has really piqued the curiosity of fans.

You see, in the comics, Caliban is portrayed as a member of the Morlocks, a sewer-dwelling breed of freaks who are able to sniff out and detect other mutants like a great white shark honing in on a single drop of blood. Such an ability makes Caliban indispensable to Boyd Holbrook and his team of Reavers, as they close in on Laura/X-23, the young mutant played here by the up-and-coming Dafne Keen. It certainly makes a lot of sense story-wise, but until Logan claws its way into theaters early next year, consider those rumors just that.

On March 3, 2017, Logan will bring about Hugh Jackman’s ninth and final turn as Wolverine – and we couldn’t be more excited.
