Despite being one of the most beloved and iconic cinematic superheroes around, Wolverine’s two solo outings – X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine – do not rank among many people’s top comic book movies. With the upcoming third Wolverine movie being Hugh Jackman’s last appearance in the role after 17 years, there’s a lot of pressure on it to step up to the plate and act as a terrific send-off to the character.
Now that we’ve seen the first trailer for the movie – simply titled Logan – it looks like it actually might just do that. Eschewing the usual focus on Wolverine mowing people down – though there is a solid amount of that, too – it promises a really strong piece of character-led drama with a very different tone from any other movie in the X-Men franchise.
