We’re hearing today that the post-credits sequence for next month’s Captain America: Civil War almost featured the Hulk. That’s according to screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who shared new details about the lack of Mark Ruffalo’s hulking green rage monster in Civil War.

Per The Huffington Post, Markus and McFeely revealed that the notion of including Bruce Banner in Civil War‘s post-credits sequence was brought up early on in production, but in fear that said cameo would undermine the ending of Age of Ultron – or, by the same token, spoil the surprise of Thor: Ragnarok – the Marvel scribes opted to push Hulk onto the sidelines for the time being.

“Mark Ruffalo shot no scenes. We talked about having Bruce Banner at the very end of the film, and it just, again, seemed like we’re sticking people in just to stick them in. He has clearly gone somewhere at the end of ‘Ultron,’ and that’s a story. Don’t blow it off and put it in a little tiny chunk just to put in a little extra filigree on our movie. That’s a story. There was a draft with a stinger of him in it. But that was long ago….”

Those expecting to glimpse the Hulk appear in the deleted scenes for Captain America: Civil War needn’t hold their breath, either, considering that there aren’t any to report.

In tandem with today’s confirmation, Marvel and Audi have also premiered a new ad campaign featuring the Civil War highway chase. In it, you’ll find Black Panther give chase to both Bucky Barnes and Chris Evans’ star-spangled hero.

Captain America: Civil War debuts on May 6 in North America. Stay tuned to We Got This Covered over the coming weeks for our review and in the meantime, be sure to feast your eyes on the film’s latest batch of images, via EW.
