Though it doesn’t hit theatres until May, Captain America: Civil War has begun test screenings and according to Devin over at Birth.Movies.Death, the reactions are incredibly positive. Five sources have reported that the film is testing through the roof and “the only thing they disagree on is whether the movie tested as well as or better than Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which had previously been the best-testing Marvel movie.”
What’s also interesting to note is that Devin mentions that Civil War has a dark third act that “doesn’t pull any punches.” At first, Marvel was a bit worried about heading in this direction, but apparently the test screenings have eased their fears and they won’t be making too many changes to the last bit of the film.

Now, while all signs point to Captain America: Civil War being a huge hit, and quite possibly one of Marvel’s best efforts yet, it’d be wise not to get too excited over the reports coming out of these test screenings. After all, just because it tested well with a small group of people doesn’t mean it will go over well with the general public.
The other thing to keep in mind, too, is that Devin’s sources could be Marvel employees or filmmakers who have a vested interest in Civil War, so obviously they’d want to generate a bit of buzz.
Either way, as the movie’s May 6th release date draws closer, we’ll undoubtedly be seeing a lot more from it in terms of marketing, which should help us determine for ourselves if this is really going to be Marvel’s most accomplished film yet.
