According to the user behind this Instagram upload, the figure presented in the image is none other than Skrull leader Talos, played by regular screen villain Ben Mendelsohn. And based on the comments that this photo has received, fans aren’t too pleased with the character’s design, with its head piece and very prominent ears in particular being popular points of objection. Either way, it’s nice to see that things are moving forward with the promotion of next year’s release, which is now just over five months away.

Ever since it was first revealed that Skrulls would be playing a part in Carol Danvers’ big screen debut, the internet has been flooded with theories of which characters in the MCU could actually be one of these shape-shifting aliens in disguise, with suspects ranging from General Ross to the Hulk. Though most of these predictions don’t fare well under scrutiny, it has been confirmed that Mendelsohn’s character will be operating undercover as a member of S.H.I.E.L.D., where he’ll be giving orders to a young Nick Fury.

The actor himself, however, claimed earlier this year that he prefers performing in Talos’ natural form, saying:

“The thing is, when you’re Skrullin’, there’s a kind of take-no-prisoners vibe about it, which is more relaxed. This guy’s got to follow protocol because it’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Skrullin’, you’re punching through shields. You’re taking shields off people and using them on people. So it’s kind of more fun to play.”

As it stands, it’s quite possible that the MCU already contains one or two characters who aren’t what they seem, but we’ll surely get a better idea of how well integrated the Skrulls are in this cinematic universe when Captain Marvel comes out on March 8th, 2019.
