Coming out of Infinity War, it’s the million-dollar question: who will be the one to defeat Thanos?

There have been all sorts of theories and well-educated guesses about Avengers 4, that much we know, but few have stopped to consider which character(s) will bring the Mad Titan to his knees.

Tony Stark, Doctor Strange and even Nebula have all been name-dropped as pretenders to the throne – that throne being the MCU’s strongest ever character – but it’s looking increasingly likely that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will step up to the plate and kill Thanos once and for all.

That’s exactly the scenario depicted by this stunning Avengers 4 fan art from ‘Ultraraw26,’ which sees Carol Danvers punching her way through the Mad Titan’s chest. Lean a little closer, though, and you’ll notice that she’s equipped with the Infinity Gauntlet, which is either the original one Thanos used during Infinity War or a second gauntlet that’s been forged by Tony Stark and Co. as they journey across the cosmos… and through time.

It’s undoubtedly an incredible addition to the Avengers 4 fan gallery, though we imagine this hypothetical scene is a little too grisly for a four-quadrant Marvel movie about superheroes overcoming great adversity.

As for Carol Danvers, we won’t be able to gauge the full extent of Captain Marvel’s god-like abilities until March of 2019, when Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden will journey back to the 1990s to chronicle the true origin of Brie Larson’s MCU newcomer. And at least according to Kevin Feige, she’s far and away the strongest Avenger thus far.

Avengers 4 debuts on May 3rd, 2019, and only then will we know the true fate of Thanos.
