Pixar has some celebrating to do this week because for the 12th time in a row they have a winner! Cars 2 brought in $68 million despite mediocre reviews and when you add that to the $42 million that it made overseas, the studio is definitely feeling pretty good right now.

“It couldn’t be any better than that. What an unbelievable track record these guys have,” Chuck Viane, head of distribution for Disney, said.

In second place was the Cameron Diaz flick Bad Teacher with $31 million, more than making back its $19 million dollar budget. In third was the disappointing Green Lantern which brought in just $18.4 million, bringing the total to $89.3 million.Despite the poor box office performance and critical reception, Warner Bros. still hopes to get a sequel going.

This week, the fourth spot goes to J.J. AbramsSuper 8 which has just about doubled its $50 million budget and is continuing to gather very positive reviews. The film still hasn’t hit that $100 million mark though and with Transfomers: Dark Of The Moon arriving next week, things are going to slow down for Abrams’ alien pic. The film hasn’t necessarily done bad business at the box office, it’s just a lot lower than I had originally predicted.

Finally, roundin out the top 5 is Jim Carrey and his horrid Mr. Popper’s Penguins. The deservedly bad reviews have held the film back from recapturing its budget. That being said, it’s still fairly new and will most likely give the studio a bit of profit before it leaves theatres.
