John Hillcoat’s anticipated actioner tells the tale of Affleck’s rookie cop Chris Allen, who is soon caught up in a corrupt maelstrom of dirty cops and seedy Russian gangsters. Bribed by the mob, Affleck’s fellow law enforcers begin plotting a deadly heist that involves ringing in a “Triple 9,” causing the city’s response unit to scramble in search of a hoax while they carefully enact their plan on the other side of town.
Less a foolproof plan and more an exercise in risking their lives for a quick buck, today’s latest snippet showcases just how quickly things turn from bad to worse, with Woody Harrelson’s world-weary detective well aware that something big is about to go down.
Also starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Aaron Paul, Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot, Teresa Palmer, The Walking Dead fan favorite Norman Reedus and Anthony Mackie, the key test now is for Open Road’s actioner to prove that it’s more than the sum of its part when it releases later this month.
John Hillcoat’s R-rated crime romp hits theaters on February 26. For more on Triple 9, check out the official synopsis below the latest – and rather stylish – character poster.
In TRIPLE NINE, a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist and the only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down.” Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck action-packed finale tangled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.
