Curious to know what kind of firepower Finn will be packing in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? John Boyega and Rian Johnson have you covered.

In what has been a busy few days for Disney’s upcoming space opera – we’ve had beautiful, high-res stills, story clues pertaining to Luke’s quest, and much, much more – Boyega took to Instagram to share a close-up of Finn’s all-new blaster as it’ll appear in The Last Jedi.

All in all, it’s fairly similar to the one Han Solo wielded all throughout the original trilogy – and The Force Awakens, of course – and you’ll notice that the shaft lights up anytime the trigger is pulled. The reason for this is two-fold; on the one hand, it gives actors the opportunity to become more immersed in the scene, while the neon blue is also used as a reference point for VFX artists and CGI experts during the post-production process. As for the actual color, the neon blue will no doubt evoke memories of Skywalker’s lightsaber, and though Finn initially brandished the legendary weapon during the opening stages of J.J. Abrams’ franchise revival, it was ultimately Daisy Ridley’s Rey who took the fight to Kylo Ren aboard Starkiller Base.

That’s a fierce rivalry that will no doubt spill over into Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Disney is, of course, keeping Rian Johnson’s December sequel on a tight leash in order to maintain some semblance of intrigue and mystery, but at the very least, you can now check off Finn’s choice of weapon from that overwhelming list of questions and queries.

Per Instagram:

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is earmarked for theatrical release on December 15th, and all signs currently point to Rian Johnson’s galactic sequel hosting a Skywalker reunion in seven months’ time.
