After getting used to seeing Charlie Hunnam as a bad boy biker in Sons of Anarchy for the past four years, it’ll take you a moment to adjust to this photo of him in Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim.

The last time we saw him this groomed was back in 2005 when he played a healthy-bodied soccer fanatic opposite Elijah Wood in Green Street Hooligans. That being said, I’m looking forward to seeing him with a bit more of a conservative look – even though biker looks very good on him.

Alongside Humman is co-star Rinko Kikuchi and alongside her is some interesting robotic technology. Though we’re not quite sure what it is, it definitely has our attention.

If you haven’t heard much about the film yet, check out the plot synopsis below. There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding this one and with good reason.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Charlie Day and is scheduled to fly into theaters on July 12, 2013.
