Getting a whole bunch of great directors together in a room for an hour or so just to shoot the shit is every movie geek's dream, especially if said directors are Ben Affleck, Quentin Tarantino, David O. Russell, Ang Lee, Gus Van Sant and Tom Hooper, who have come together as Best Director hopefuls to sit down and spout their wisdoms upon one another and the world. This particular roundtable (though it's not actually round - tut tut) is filled with interesting tidbits regarding all six directors and their thoughts and ideologies when it comes to filmmaking.

Getting a whole bunch of great directors together in a room for an hour or so just to shoot the shit is every movie geek’s dream, especially if said directors are Ben Affleck, Quentin Tarantino, David O. Russell, Ang Lee, Gus Van Sant and Tom Hooper, who have come together as Best Director hopefuls to sit down and spout their wisdoms upon one another and the world. This particular roundtable (though it’s not actually round – tut tut) is filled with interesting tidbits regarding all six directors and their thoughts and ideologies when it comes to filmmaking.

Quentin Tarantino, for example, discusses his plans to retire before he becomes an “old man director”; Ben Affleck talks about working with his brother and firing an actor on Argo; Gus Van Sant recalls an amusing moment when an executive pitched a movie to him about a washroom attendant; David O. Russell tells Tarantino not to retire and envisions himself with a tube up his nose like the late John Huston; Tom Hooper talks about the first film he ever made with his sibling. And Ang Lee… well, he’s just adorable, isn’t it? Look. Look at how adorable he is.

All six directors, of course, have movies out right at the moment or very soon: Argo (Affleck), Django Unchained (Tarantino), Silver Linings Playbook (Russell), Life of Pi (Ang Lee), Promised Land (Van Sant) and Les Miserables (Tom Hooper). Quentin Tarantino also reveals that one day, maybe, he could possibly do a musical, and that he’s also thinking about mounting a mini-series at one point. See? You didn’t know that, did you? Check out that (and more) in the video below:
