Chucky Stabs Mr. Potato Head Right In The Noggin On New Child’s Play Poster

It seems Chucky really has a vendetta against Toy Story characters, as evidenced in a brand new poster for the Child's Play reboot.

Halloween might be a ways off, but the next few months are shaping up to be a real treat for horror movie junkies. Aside from a few sequels and follow-ups, plenty of studios have been keen on bringing old and long-forgotten franchises back from the dead, and Orion Pictures is looking to do something similar by releasing Child’s Play, a remake and reboot of the 1988 film of the same name.

Directed by Lars Klevberg and produced by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, this new movie is set to bring a modern twist to the beloved franchise. Admittedly, most of the pic’s surprises are being kept under wraps, but it looks like Chucky – the series’ children’s toy turned serial killer – will be an out-of-control robot doll, as opposed to the possessed version seen in the original run of films.

In the lead-up to its release next week, Orion Pictures has been regularly poking fun at other toy-centric movies; namely, Pixar’s beloved Toy Story series. To date, we’ve been graced with posters showing a dismembered Woody and a burned-to-a-crisp Buzz Lightyear, and the film’s newest ad doesn’t buck the trend in the slightest.

As you can see in the gallery above, Chucky has taken his anger out on what looks like Mr. Potato Head, by inserting a knife directly into the poor toy’s noggin. Boil ’em, mash ’em, stick ’em in a stew, am I right?

For now, it seems like Orion Pictures’ clever (and purposefully indirect) marketing has thankfully skirted the ire of the legal team over at Disney. Personally, we’ve enjoyed these tongue-in-cheek posters, and can’t wait to see if the same style of humor makes its way into the final film. With Child’s Play hitting theaters on June 21st, we’ll find out soon enough it seems.
