The moment where the Guardians of the Galaxy star fails to keep his cool – inadvertently dooming half the universe in the process – has been a subject of ongoing scorn from the fans, who seem intent on reminding Pratt at every turn of his character’s mistake. By now, the actor has no doubt heard all the complaints, so in a new Instagram post sharing the latest Avengers: Endgame trailer, Pratt apparently couldn’t help but throw in a sarcastic reference to the comments he knew were coming his way:

“As the leader of the Guardians allow me to thank our amazing fans and the @avengers for letting us come and play. Where will you watch #ENDGAME opening weekend? Please comment below. And feel free to share with me your thoughts on Starlord’s actions in the last movie. I’m not sure how you feel about me hitting Thanos.”

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have repeatedly gone on record defending Star-Lord’s actions. In an interview last year with Entertainment Tonight, for instance, Joe observed that having already lost his mother and killed his own father, the death of Gamora was enough to put him over the edge. The filmmaker added that Peter “is a flawed character, and that’s what’s so compelling about him.”

While Pratt hasn’t shown up in either of the Avengers: Endgame trailers for obvious reasons, it’s generally assumed that Star-Lord will be back in the world of the living by the end of next month’s release. Even Pratt’s co-star Dave Bautista mentioned last year that the Guardians cast had shot scenes for the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, suggesting that we’ll be seeing Peter Quill on our screens once more when the film hits theaters on April 26th.
