While John Krasinski and Paramount have been keeping appropriately tight-lipped on the details of A Quiet Place 2, THR has just reported that Cillian Murphy of Peaky Blinders, Batman Begins and 28 Days Later… fame is in talks to join the line-up for this highly anticipated horror sequel.

Though details on the film remain vague, The Hollywood Reporter has relayed word that Murphy will play “a man with mysterious intentions who joins the family unit.” Speaking of which, the movie is also expected to see the return of Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe as the three surviving members of the Abbott family.

As it stands, Murphy is the only series newcomer reported to be on board for the sequel. Krasinski, meanwhile, is back behind the camera, despite the director being initially hesitant to return to the property. In an interview last December with Deadline, the filmmaker admitted that he was “basically mind-tricked” into wanting to work on the sequel after the studio started looking for other writers.

While A Quiet Place 2 will evidently have a few familiar faces in the mix, Krasinski has previously gone on record arguing that the property’s sequel potential lies less in the individual characters and more in the world they inhabit. We can therefore expect the upcoming film to further explore and play with the logic of a reality where keeping the noise down is a matter of life and death.

After the first film grossed $340 million worldwide on a budget of around $17 million and received some of the best reviews of any horror movie in 2018, Krasinski is contending with some lofty expectations for the sequel, but we’ll find out if A Quiet Place 2 can match the hype when it arrives in theaters on May 15th, 2020.
