‘Cocaine Bear’ debuts with mind-bogglingly perfect Rotten Tomatoes score

Not many films get the distinct honor of hitting 100% at Rotten Tomatoes, but 'Cocaine Bear' has joined the distinct list.

Cocaine Bear is hitting theaters on Friday, but some folks have already been treated to a special glimpse of the action thriller when it premiered at the Regal LA Live on Tuesday. It appears — things could change as more reviews roll in — Elizabeth Banks has hit a home run, with her most recent production hitting the ground running with a, as of writing, perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The action thriller, which is more aptly described as a dark comedy, stars Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. Margo Martindale, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and the late Ray Liotta are also in the movie about a drug dealer who dumps a duffle bag full of cocaine into a Georgia forest, allowing for a bear to happen upon its resting place and unintentionally take the trip of its life.

A story like that seems to be more in the comedic vein because of its absolutely ridiculous premise, but it is officially categorized as an action thriller because there is a little truth to the story.

Cocaine Bear is now enjoying being part of a shortlist of movies that are considered 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, though we don’t expect that status to last beyond the film’s embargo being officially lifted tomorrow.

Oddly enough, the film is loosely based on a true story that hit the headlines in 1985 of an actual American black bear that treated itself to a duffle bag packed with the good stuff. Unlike this work of fiction, nobody is believed to have been killed by the real cocaine bear, which perished shortly after ingesting 70 pounds of nose candy.

Cocaine Bear hits theaters tomorrow, Feb. 24.
