With The New Mutants being marketed as the first horror movie of the X-Men franchise, it’s a safe bet that the Josh Boone-helmed flick will have a drastically different tone from the comedic Deadpool films, and yet Stefan Kapicic is eager to have these two parts of the cinematic universe meet.
That’s not to say that the Colossus actor wants to see the Merc with a Mouth cracking wise amidst all the panic and dread of next year’s release, but rather Kapicic desires a reunion between his own character and Colossus’ sister Illyana Rasputin, aka Magik. The teleporting superheroine will have her big screen debut in New Mutants, portrayed by Split actress Anya Taylor-Joy, and in an interview with Red Carpet News, Kapicic has now expressed interest in sharing some scenes with his onscreen sibling.
“I’m waiting for Colossus to meet his sister Illyana,” Kapicic said. “And New Mutants comes out next year, so I’m hoping to see the Rasputins back together in a movie. I’m really counting on that.”
While this certainly seems possible, one thing that could prevent this touching family reunion is the impending Fox-Disney merger, since the integration of the X-Men, Deadpool and the rest of the mutants into the MCU could involve Marvel hitting the reset button for the series. Should this merger go ahead – which it presumably will after the recent withdrawal of Comcast from the bidding war – Kapicic also seemed keen to get involved in a big Infinity War-style conflict against another character currently owned by Fox.
“Then as a geek, as a fan, I’d like to see all of the Marvel Universe together in a way going against, maybe Galactus because Thanos is already in progress. There are so many beautiful arcs and so many beautiful stories.”
We’re still a long way off from seeing any epic crossovers like this come into effect, but in the meantime, Colossus’ sister Magik will be making make her entry into the X-Men universe when The New Mutants releases on August 2nd, 2019.
