First Look At Common On The Set Of Suicide Squad

Back in April, rapper-cum-actor Common jumped aboard David Ayer's Suicide Squad, which reignited rumors that he'd be playing John Stewart/Green Lantern in the DC Cinematic Universe (a role he actually was cast for back in 2007, for George Miller's cancelled Justice League Mortal). Now, thanks to some photos that have leaked from the set, we know without the shadow of a doubt that Common is not playing the popular power ring-carrying superhero.

Back in April, rapper-cum-actor Common jumped aboard David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, which reignited rumors that he’d be playing John Stewart/Green Lantern in the DC Cinematic Universe (a role he actually was cast for back in 2007, for George Miller’s cancelled Justice League Mortal). Now, thanks to some photos that have leaked from the set, we know without the shadow of a doubt that Common is not playing the popular power ring-carrying superhero.

Common appeared in costume on Wednesday not as Green Lantern, Black Manta, or even Bronze Tiger, but as little-known DC villain Abel Tarrant, a.k.a. Tattooed Man (who is, ironically, a Green Lantern foe).

Tarrant is a former sailor who takes to a life of crime and uses a special ink to tattoo himself and then bring those tattoos to life. The various tattoos and piercings Tarrant sports in the comics match up pretty well to those Common has, so while there could be some kind of character mashing happening here, him playing Tattooed Man makes the most sense.

Also spotted on set today was Jared Leto, who once again is in full Joker attire. However, he’s hiding himself under a large black coat, signalling that he’s gone through a costume change since the last time we saw him.

Check out the pics in the gallery above, and let us know your thoughts on Common playing Tattooed Man in the comments below.

Suicide Squad will hit theaters on August 5th, 2016.
