With all the rumors flying around at the moment about casting for The Batman, Sebastian Stan has thrown his hat into the ring to play the Riddler. The Avengers: Endgame star, speaking at a Jus In Bello Q&A in Rome this week, was quizzed about future roles he’d like to take on and Stan admitted that he’d like to make the move from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC equivalent.

The actor commented: “I would love to try and play The Riddler. That’s an interesting character.” He then went on to offer this disclaimer on the difficulty of the role, saying:

“I don’t know how you’d play that one actually, that would be very hard to be honest, because you couldn’t be like crazy crazy crazy. You would have to be kind of much darker than that, but that’s an interesting character.”

Given Stan’s range in the MCU, most notably in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it wouldn’t surprise us if he could make a role like the Riddler his own. The puzzle-loving villain is one of Batman’s most widely interpreted, after all, from Jim Carrey’s gonzo performance in Batman Forever to Cory Michael Smith’s more psychological tortured take in Gotham.

Stan could perhaps see his dream come true if the Riddler is part of Matt Reeves’ reported plan to have six villains in The Batman. At the moment, this likely includes the Penguin and Catwoman, but the Riddler would certainly fit into the film as one of the more grounded of the Dark Knight’s villains, especially given its focus on the younger days of Bruce Wayne. If Stan’s considered for the Riddler, he could even be teaming up again with Robert Pattinson’s Batman, with both actors set to appear in Netflix’s The Devil All the Time.

We’re happy to hear that the Avengers: Endgame star is ready to take on another iconic character, even more so given Stan’s passion for the genre, and though it remains to be seen if it’ll come to fruition, we’d certainly be alright with it if it did.
