It seems that the search is over and Harry Osborn has been cast for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Many names were rumored to be considered for the part over the past few weeks, with actors like Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth all in contention, but in the end, it appears Dane DeHaan has won the role.
Back when he was one of the many rumored, DeHaan had this to say about being in the film:
“You know, I would love to be in Spider-Man. I have a lot of respect for Andrew Garfield as a person and an artist and a lot of respect for Marc Webb as a person and an artist…if that opportunity were to come along, I would be really flattered and humbled to be a part of it. But that‘s about it for now I guess.”
Dehaan is a relatively unknown face perhaps best known for his role in Chronicle and most recently seen in Lawless. While I’m not too familiar with his work, he seems like a great Harry Osborn and I have nothing but high hopes for the character, previously portrayed by James Franco.
Last we heard, Shailene Woodley was set to join Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Mary Jane Watson and Jamie Foxx was also reportedly in talks to play the main villain, Electro.
It seems the only main character left would be Norman Osborn, who was teased back in the first movie. With the great casting so far, I’m optimistic that they’ll find a perfect actor to take on that role (although, wouldn’t Jamie Foxx be great as him instead of Electro?).
What do you think of the new Harry Osborn? Let us know in the comments.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release on May 2, 2014.
