The Dark Knight Rises was both a critical and a financial success, yet it is getting little hype as an Oscar contender. That isn’t stopping Warner Bros. from making a push though as they’ve recently released a new “for your consideration” poster featuring director Christopher Nolan.

It seems that since The Dark Knight Rises was as sharply directed and as well made a film as we’ve seen all year, it should at least be considered for best picture. It’s also the most complete ending to a trilogy since The Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King, which was really just the third part to one long story, so great amounts of credit are due for that feat.

However, it seems any chance of The Dark Knight Rises being granted one of the major awards by the Academy is slim. Best director will likely go to someone who made something other than a comic book film. There are plenty of directors just as deserving as Nolan, so it isn’t too much of a crime that he may be pushed out of consideration simply because his movie is about a man dressing up as a bat. As for best picture, there’s even less chance of that happening as it’ll likely be many years before the Academy is willing to hand that award to a comic book film.

Even if the film isn’t likely to land either of those awards, it still has a great chance in some other categories, namely best score for Hans Zimmer’s work. And if nothing else, the poster is still a cool work of art featuring a new picture of Nolan.

What do you think of Nolan’s chances of snagging best director? How about The Dark Knight Rises being awarded best picture? Check out the full poster below and then head to the comments section to share your thoughts.
