DC fans debate if Gal Gadot just met her own replacement as Wonder Woman in ‘Shazam! 2’

It does make you wonder...

As was the worst-kept secret of the entire movie, Gal Gadot made a welcome return as Wonder Woman in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but it’s possible this isn’t a promise we’ll be seeing more of her in James Gunn’s rebooted DCU but her very own “Henry Cavill in Black Adam” moment — a low-key last appearance before the role is rebooted. If that is the case, though, fans are ironically floating the idea that our next Diana Prince could be someone Gadot just worked with on Shazam 2.

Over on the r/DC_Cinematic subreddit, a piece of fan art imagining Grace Caroline Currey (who plays Mary Bromfield in the Shazam films) — which was originally shared here — has inspired talk of the DCEU veteran finding herself playing the princess of Themyscira in the DCU. Folks debated the pros and cons of the familiar face from the franchise returning in such a key role.

Some argued that Currey’s casting could work given the fact that due to her age she could join the Justice League for a long time to come.

Others think it would just be too confusing to have a Shazam alum as Wonder Woman. Although, honestly, if Jason Momoa can be Lobo then why not?

Alternatively, there’s always Zatanna in a Justice League Dark project.

Or perhaps the best way to go would be to recast Currey as Wonder Girl — aka Donna Troy — once Gunn gets around to introducing the Teen Titans.

Until James Gunn fully clarifies to what extent the DCU will wipe the slate clean and start again, debates over how old DCEU stars can be reborn in the relaunched franchise will continue. Hopefully, we’ll get a better idea of the rules once The Flash arrives this June.
