The Merc’s Ode To Canada Continues With Latest Deadpool 2 Promo

From belting out a musical number with Celine Dion to toasting the country's finest exports, the Merc's affinity with Canada continues in today's all-new promo for Deadpool 2.

In the past seven days alone, he’s adorned the cover of Entertainment Weekly and shared the stage with Celine Dion (!), but for his latest trick, the Merc With a Mouth has paid tribute to Canada’s greatest exports – Dion included, of course.

Yes, it can only be the newest promo for Deadpool 2, the raunchy R-rated sequel that’s coming by way of seasoned action director David Leitch, whose past credits include John Wick and the rich, Cold War-infused cocktail that is Atomic Blonde.

This teaser, in particular, doesn’t contain any new material from the movie, and is simply a way for Fox to promote Deadpool 2 without actually promoting Deadpool 2. That means no new footage, and definitely no spoilers, as a fully-costumed Wade Wilson rhymes off Canada’s biggest musical talents – from Bieber to Bublé, the Merc leaves no stone unturned when professing his love for America’s northerly neighbors, and he even takes a swipe at the Eurovision Song Contest, which is currently underway in Lisbon, Portugal.

Circling back to the Merc’s sophomore adventure, though, and it seems an early draft of Deadpool 2 actually portrayed Wade Wilson as a father – yes, papa ‘Pool was almost projected onto the big screen, before screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick scrapped the idea early on in development.

Via EW, here’s what Reynolds had to say about the near-miss:

The genesis of it was: What if Deadpool had a child? Like, what if we started five years later and what would that be like? By page 1.5, it was totally untenable. We were just like, Nope. Nope. No, no, no. This is never, ever going to work. We went back to the drawing board and kind of reworked it in a way about wanting to have a child, which is something that so many people I know experience on a daily basis – wanting to have a child but can’t.

Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 18th, and while Fox and Drew Goddard are actively plotting the X-Force ensemble movie, there’s supposedly no guarantee that it’ll lead into a third Deadpool solo movie. Or so says Ryan Reynolds…
