Deadpool 2 Director Won’t Rule Out A Pansexual Wade Wilson

While people can debate the connections to Spider-Man all they want, it's best we examine the Merc with a Mouth himself as the release of Deadpool 2 creeps up on us. Normally, the qualities that spring to mind when one thinks of Wade Wilson tend to be a penchant for ultra-violence, foul language and maybe a little fourth wall breaking in the process.

One thing, however, we often don’t dwell on is his sexuality. Truth be told, I was a bit surprised they gave him a love story of any sort in the first movie, but this is Hollywood, baby, and that helps sell screenplays. And while we don’t see Morena Baccarin leaving anytime soon, it stands to reason that Wade may take on other lovers in the future.

On that note, The Huffington Post recently spoke with director David Leitch about possibly making Deadpool a pansexual as he is in the comics. Here’s what the filmmaker had to say regarding that:

“Everything in the Deadpool world is possible. It’s such a crazy universe to play in, but I can’t comment about where we’re gonna go. That’s what’s fun about Deadpool, you really don’t know and you’re willing to ask these questions about him. I think that, right there, says it all. How often do you have a character where you could even have these discussions?

“I’m so excited about how people are so into his universe and his world, and I think that says a lot about the character Ryan built. He’s perfect for that role.”

While anything is certainly  possible, one has to wonder how much time they’ll have to explore Wilson’s tender side as time goes on, especially knowing that an X-Force movie is on the way. Still, this could be a way to chart new territory, as it’s not often you see a character swing in more than one direction in live-action.

Deadpool 2 is slated to arrive in theaters on June 1, 2018.
