Sony Pictures must be pretty confident about this fall’s The Equalizer, considering that a sequel to the action thriller is already in the works. Perennial badass Denzel Washington stars as Robert McCall, a retired black ops commando who lives a quiet life in Boston until he comes across a battered young prostitute (Chloë Grace Moretz) and goes after the Russian gangsters controlling her, bringing the full force of the mob down on his head in the process.
The second trailer for the action flick, which was directed by Olympus Has Fallen helmer Antoine Fuqua and penned by The Mechanic scribe Richard Wenk, just emphasizes how awesome Washington is in these kinds of roles, but it also gives us a better picture of just how ruthlessly Moretz’s character is abused by her employers. Check it out below:
Aside from Washington’s presence in The Equalizer, I’m excited to see Moretz, so good in Let Me In and Carrie, step into another decidedly mature role. She’s an incredibly talented young actress, and hopefully she’ll get a chance to strike back at the film’s baddies in a few action sequences of her own.
Bonus for music buffs: this trailer features the debut of Eminem’s collaboration with Sia, which we don’t have a name for yet but which sounds totally awesome.
The Equalizer opens September 26th.
In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can’t stand idly by – he has to help her. Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anyone who would brutalize the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened. If someone has a problem, if the odds are stacked against them, if they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer
