Possible First Details On Forest Whitaker’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Character

Thanks to that first awesome image of our Rebel heroes assembled, we know what several of the main characters from Godzilla director Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will look like in the movie, but we still don't know a single thing about any of them. Of course, we know even less about the characters that weren't pictured, and right at the top of that list is whoever Forest Whitaker is playing.

Thanks to that first awesome image of our Rebel heroes assembled, we know what several of the main characters from Godzilla director Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will look like in the movie, but we still don’t know a single thing about any of them. Of course, we know even less about the characters that weren’t pictured, and right at the top of that list is whoever Forest Whitaker is playing.

The veteran Last King of Scotland actor has yet to speak about his role in any capacity to the press or media, so we’ve never even had any hints to go on – but now we might just have some juicy details thanks to Making Star Wars, who reckon they’ve come across some info on the character’s appearance and affiliations.

It appears he has one leg and uses a cane as a crutch to walk. Earlier reports made it seem like he might have one leg but the clarification on the topic is a “robot leg.”

He appears to be a veteran of some battles, but it isn’t clear if he lost his leg fighting in The Clone Wars or against the Empire.

Based on a differentiated code name from the rest of the rebels in the movie, it appears he is likely good but maybe a bounty hunter affiliated type.

He has a cape and his costume is a hodgepodge of different things (think of someone you might see at Maz’s Castle)

None of this information has been confirmed by the studio just yet, but if true, it certainly sounds like an interesting role for the actor to play. That being said, though, no matter which part Whitaker ends up taking on, there’s no doubt that he’ll definitely add something special to the film.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens on December 16.
