Looks like director Gareth Edwards plans to keep himself busy after his independent sci-fi hit Monsters put him on every studio’s radar. Along with being locked in to direct Godzilla’s next big screen adventure, Edwards has quietly been putting together another sci-fi film that he himself is describing as “a robot Star Wars.” Details have been scarce up to this point, but /Film now provides insight into the plot along with an actual title of the project, which will be called Forever.
Check out the plot summary below:
“A young human child (probably around 5 years old) and a robot travel across the galaxy in search of mankind’s origin in a world void of humanity and filled with robots.”
We also have confirmation from producer Timur Bekmembetov that Forever is entering the next steps of production (thanks to Bleeding Cool):
“It’s happening. He shot a test film, and we now have to wait until the script is in place. Gareth is meeting with the writer to polish the script. The writer is Dante Harper, says Bekmembetov.”
Harper’s minimal writing resume includes two movies slated for 2013 releases (All You Need Is Kill/Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters), but Edward’s ambitious idea should give Harper plenty of room to shine.
Movement on Forever sounds extremely promising now that test shootings are finished and a writer is locked. Being a tremendous enthusiast on the massive scale Edwards was able to achieve on Monsters, an infinite universe seems right up our budding director’s alley.
Is anyone else excited for Forever?
