Disney Exec Promises We’ll Be Seeing More Deadpool

The Merc With a Mouth is still in vogue despite the historic Disney-Fox merger, after Alan Horn assured CinemaCon attendees that there will be more Deadpool movies in the very near future.

We haven’t seen the last of Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth.

Not that the actor’s role was ever really in doubt, but in light of the historic Disney-Fox merger, a number of potentially alarming Deadpool questions have been raised. For instance, will the Mouse House dilute Wade Wilson to create a PG-13 version of the iconic Marvel anti-hero? Not quite.

As a matter of fact, Disney boss Bob Iger recently hinted at the possibility of an R-rated Marvel Studios movie, with Deadpool seemingly being priority number one. When, exactly, we’ll see the first Disney-backed Deadpool film is another question entirely, but while in attendance at the 2019 CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, executive Alan Horn assured fans that we haven’t seen the last of Ryan Reynolds in red spandex. Far from it, in fact.

“You’ll be seeing more of Deadpool in the years ahead.”

That’s reassuring, then, even if Horn wasn’t prepared to divulge additional details of Disney’s overarching master plan for the X-Men and their mutant allies. Chances are they’re holding fire until such a time as Avengers: Endgame is out in the wild (and no doubt conquering the global box office), before shifting focus to Marvel’s Phase 4 and, perhaps most exciting of all, how those iconic mutants – Fantastic Four included – will make their MCU debut.

What does the future hold? That’s a very good question. We know Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been kicking around ideas for a third Deadpool movie, while X-Force is still in contention despite the Disney-Fox merger. But once Marvel Studios gains control of the wider X-Men universe, and Avengers: Endgame has come and gone, we should have a better understanding of Deadpool‘s fate.
