Disney Plus set to become the new home of ‘Indiana Jones’ before ‘Dial of Destiny’

Indiana Jones is headed to a streamer near you.

Ahead of the June 30 release date of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the entire Indiana Jones franchise is finding a new home. According to new reports, Disney Plus is set to become the new home of the first four films.

According to Variety, the announcement came during Disney Upfront, where Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy delivered the nm. “We couldn’t be happier with the opportunities the medium [of streaming] and this platform have afforded us,” Kennedy said.

It is currently unknown whether the deal is an exclusive one, or if fans will be able to find the Indiana Jones series on other streamers. Currently, the series is available on Paramount+ and Prime Video, but it’s uncertain if the move will impact the presence of the films on those services.

Kennedy also praised Lucasfilm’s growth into the streaming market. Kennedy claimed that the move to streaming had “expanded the types and tones” of narratives that Lucasfilm is capable of producing. Kennedy made sure to cap off this point by showing fans some new content that’s coming to Disney+.

Although Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is the only known Indiana Jones project on the docket, it’s clear that the studio has major plans for its other properties. Kennedy went on to introduce trailers for Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte, two Star Wars series coming later this year and later in 2024, respectively. The segment was then capped off with a look at Ahsoka, which is meant to premiere later this year, and which stars Rosario Dawson as the titular character.

The film is intended to cap off forty years of cinematic appearances by the character. Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones had last appeared in 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a commonly contested entry in the franchise. Indy is going to have to team up with his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) as the two go on the hunt for the titular ‘Dial of Destiny’, the details of which are currently unknown – though it is known that a dastardly character played by Mads Mikkelsen is also on the hunt for the object.

While some continue to be skeptical about the project, Steven Spielberg has recently praised the film, even going so far as to state that he was proud of what director James Mangold had accomplished. With such high words of praise, it looks like fans are about to receive a real treat – and not just because they can experience the magic of the franchise all over again when the films come to Disney+.
