Disney’s about to weep, as ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’ paves the way for another unlikely horror adaptation

It's going from bad to worse.

While Disney continues to pump out its endless assortment of Marvel treasures, it turns out the House of Mouse is simultaneously losing its attachment to beloved children’s characters that simply breed nostalgia. And as if the slasher spectacle Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey wasn’t enough of a nightmarish experience that did Disney no favors when it comes to maintaining its squeaky-clean image — the power of association; Mickey’s creator had no involvement in Blood and Honey — it’s now been officially confirmed that fan-favorite Cinderella is next in line to receive her own blood-stained extravaganza.

As per Bloody Disgusting, production company ChampDog Films has wrapped its arms around the Cinderella character and will be teaming up with ITN Studios to deliver Cinderella’s Curse — an upcoming horror flick that will feature Cinderella taking some much-needed revenge into her own hands. Of course, one can only assume that this doesn’t bode well for her two stepsisters.

The aforementioned film, which is slated for release in Fall 2023, is set to be produced and directed by Louisa Warren, who insisted that “gorehounds are in for a treat in my dark retelling.” And considering how projects such as Blood and Honey and The Mean One have somehow attracted cult followings, it certainly feels like it’s only a matter of time until horror fanatics are praising Cinderella as a genre icon with a knack for sinister antics.

Just when you thought the idea of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet savagely murdering folks was traumatizing enough, the concept of Cinderella committing devious crimes feels all the more intense. Then again, when you remember how vindictive both her stepmother and stepsisters were, you can almost understand why she would snap.

Cinderella’s Curse is set to release sometime in October.
