Evil Dead was awesome. Seriously, of all the horror remakes so far, it is the one reboot that really worked as a reboot. The campiness was taken away and replaced by a relentless tone that never gave up and never gave us a second to breathe. It worked incredibly well with the source material too, while marking its own direction.
If you ask most fans of the Evil Dead remake what their favorite (or the most disturbing) scene was, you get a lot of different answers, but I would have to say the bathroom scene was the most disturbing for me. Don’t get me wrong, tree rape sucks, but the bathroom scene, with the girl hacking away at the side of cheek (so we could see her teeth and gums through her closed mouth) and then leaping on the guy like a feral demon just creeped me right the fuck out.
But tied with that scene is the part where the girl cuts her tongue down the middle with the razor. I mean, it is extremely hard not to watch that scene and cringe.
Ah, fuck it, the whole movie deserves a spot on this list. And I mean that in the best way possible.
