Doctor Strange 2 Theory Says Says It’ll Crossover With Original Spider-Man Trilogy

But how far will this exploration of the multiverse go? Could Stephen Strange even crossover with other established cinematic continuities? Anything’s possible, and this fan theory is wondering if the hero might drop by the world from Sony’s original Spider-Man trilogy.

The Reddit theory from user Loutermit has already gone viral, though the theorist admits that he’s only got one piece of evidence to back up his idea. As Raimi fans will remember, one of the suggested names for Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 is Doctor Strange. J. Jonah Jameson waves it away, though, revealing that it’s already been “taken.”

We might have laughed this idea away in the past, but it doesn’t seem so outlandish anymore. After all, Spider-Man: Far From Home did create a big link to the Tobey Maguire films via the presence of Jameson himself. FFH‘s post-credits scene even brought back J.K. Simmons as The Daily Bugle frontman, which surely tells us that the Raimi trilogy takes place in the same multiverse as the MCU.

Doctor Strange 2 will also feature Elizabeth Olsen’s return as Scarlet Witch. As we’ve been told that Disney Plus’ WandaVision will lead directly into this movie, it’s speculated that Wanda will open the doors to the multiverse by fracturing reality in her own show, probably by trying to create an altered world where she is living happily with Vision.

We’ll find out how mad the multiverse really is when Doctor Strange 2 hits theaters on May 7th, 2021.
