‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ stars give unexpected praise to K-Y Jelly

It was the unsung MVP of the VFX department.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is right on our doorsteps, and as the world prepares for its formal introduction to Edgin Darvis, Holga, and the rest of this plucky band of adventurers, it’s as good a time as ever to reflect on the power of movie magic, which apparently isn’t always as glamourous as it sounds.

Indeed, sometimes you’re working with the greatest visual effects artists of your time to bring dinosaurs and dragons and Pandora to life, and other times you’re hitting up the sex shop with an order that pays for their yearly electricity expenses.

By the sounds of it, both instances were the case for Honor Among Thieves. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, stars Justice Smith and Michelle Rodriguez let spill that they and the rest of their heroic co-stars were all covered in K-Y Jelly lubricant when the time came to film their fight against a Gelatinous Cube, a popular D&D monster that effectively mirrors the beast from the classic monster movie The Blob.

All of us were covered in K-Y Jelly at one point. Gelatinous Cube day!

Regé-Jean Page, who plays the paladin Xenk in the film, also chimed in with another instance of a K-Y Jelly scene involving a fish, further hinting that, if we audiences see anything that looks markedly slimy in the film, K-Y Jelly was probably involved.

To make it appear as slimy as it was, it was covered in K-Y Jelly.

Let us all take this as a reminder of exactly the lengths that such creatives go to in order to bring us top-tier entertainment; being a famous actor sounds all good and fun, right up until you find yourself getting a little too intimate with K-Y Jelly, which, we assume, sounds impossible unless you’ve been through such an ordeal.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will release to cinemas on March 31
