While speaking with Variety, Johnson touched on the success that the superhero movie genre is seeing right now. And in doing so, he mentioned that he’s currently working on the upcoming Black Adam movie with Warner Bros. and is “very excited” about the project.

Here’s what he told the outlet:

“I think they’re doing great. I think, obviously Marvel has done a tremendous job in building out. And also, you know, for me, DC, we’re doing Black Adam with Warner Bros. and DC. We’re very excited about that.”

The conversation then turned to the increasing diversity in comic book cinema, with Johnson voicing his hope that there will one day be a black Superman – and that it might be him.

“Maybe one day we will see a Black Superman,” Johnson said, before clearing his throat and adding, “You’re looking at him.”

The star is just joking here (we think), but the idea of a black Superman is something that’s been discussed before many times. With Henry Cavill likely not returning as the Man of Steel, WB is now free to go in whatever direction they wish with the Last Son of Krypton.

Last year, in fact, there was even a widespread rumor that Michael B. Jordan was being considered to play an African-American Kal-El. If DC do decide head down that route though, then it sounds like Jordan might have to battle the Rock to get the part. And that certainly won’t be an easy fight.
