Refusing to forfeit first place at the domestic box office, 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool continues to pull in the big numbers two weeks after its initial arrival, and now boasts a worldwide total north of $600 million.
That’s a staggering turnout, and even the optimists that have stuck by Tim Miller’s faithful, R-rated adaptation couldn’t have predicted such a barnstorming success. Reflecting on that journey from conception to execution, concept artist Joshua James Shaw has shared an array of images that largely focus on alternative designs for Brianna Hildebrand’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
Before remaining true to the X-Men guise, early concepts for Hildebrand’s mutant adopted a much more gothic appearance, with torn garments and jet-black hair. It’s a cosplay fever dream, really, and we’re happy that both Shaw and the other artists on board arrived at a design that was not only less garish than its predecessors, but faithful to the First Class-esque outfits that have featured during Bryan Singer’s X-Men prequel trilogy.
Deadpool is still whipping up a storm in theaters, and it looks as though Fox has already rolled out release plans for the inevitable sequel.
