According to Deadline, director Ed Zwick has exited The Great Wall. Though the production was initially postponed, there’s no confirmation on whether that’s Zwick’s reason for departing.

Despite the director’s exit, the film will still go on and the Legendary Pictures will have to find a director to replace Zwick. Benjamin Walker and Henry Cavill are still set to star as is Chinese native Zhang Ziyi.

For those unfamiliar with the project, it centers on “British warriors who happen upon the hurried construction of the massive wall. As night falls, the warriors realize that the haste in building the wall isn’t just to keep out the Mongols — there is something inhuman and more dangerous.”

I do enjoy Zwick’s work, for the most part, so it’s a shame to see him go. On the other hand, nothing about this project really appeals to me and I’m not particularly excited for it so this news doesn’t really do much for me either way.

Production is set to get underway come the Spring and we’ll be sure to keep you posted on future updates.
