If you’ve been at all interested in Captain Marvel‘s journey to the big screen, you will have heard Emily Blunt’s name mentioned in connection with the role. Even since before Marvel officially announced that a film was in the works, Blunt was the fan-favorite choice to play Carol Danvers, having flirted with but ultimately having to pass on the roles of Black Widow and Peggy Carter in the past.

Then back in July, we heard a rumor that she may have entered talks to play Danvers, or was at least at the top of Marvel’s list; but if that’s the case, Blunt is definitely not going to confirm it – on the contrary, while being interviewed at the Toronto International Film Festival, she offered MTV a firm denial.

“It’s crazy, I’ve not had a phone call about it. Not one whisper of Captain Marvel has come my way. Promise. Promise promise. I don’t even know who Captain Marvel is!”

Okay, well we know that last part isn’t true, because this is about the 10th time Blunt has been asked about these rumors and has previously said she was aware of the character. So is this all spin, or have there really been no discussions at all? Let us know what you think below, and give us your top picks for Carol Danvers while you’re at it.

Captain Marvel hits theaters in 2018.
