It looks like the end of the road for the gang. At least that’s what the trailer for the new film hinted at during the Super Bowl on Sunday. Fans are already stocking up on tissues and hankies for James Gunn’s threequel that’s set to hit theaters later this year. Kumail Nanjiani seemed to confirm that the film will be a real tearjerker too, as the Eternals star tweeted after the trailer was aired.

If anyone’s in a position to know details about the upcoming film, it would be a Marvel star with behind-the-scenes access. Nanjiani won’t be appearing in the latest Guardians installment, however, he was supposed to have a cameo in the film due to being friends with Gunn. This was later written out after Nanjiani was cast as Kingo in the Eternals.

Nanjiani didn’t give fans any more details regarding the plot of the film or what exactly is going to make us cry. Although we can assume there will be some major character deaths, after all, we know this is the last installment.

James Gunn replied to Nanjiani’s tweet, jokingly calling the actor out for spoilers. Nanjiani fired back, claiming that Gunn had now inadvertently confirmed that the film will bring fans to tears.

Whilst both actor and director were careful not to give anything away and risk the wrath of Kevin Feige, we do know that the third Guardians will be one emotional ride.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
