Even a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ star spelling it out can’t convince fans a major death is actually happening

Are they right or can they just not face the truth?

Rocket’s going to die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Wait, no, that’s not a spoiler, that’s what Marvel Studios seems to really want us to think going into May’s much-anticipated threequel. The trailers have been heaping on the emotion, featuring multiple clips and voiceovers which point to this one ending in a heartbreaking ending for Rocket Racoon. They’ve been pushing it so hard, in fact, that at this point skeptical fans suspect it’s all a con and everyone’s favorite talking trash panda is actually going to be fine.

They’ve become so totally convinced of this notion that even Rocket himself practically spelling it out for them is doing nothing to pivot folks away from this all-consuming conspiracy theory. In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, Sean Gunn — who performs the MoCap for the character, in addition to playing Kraglin — confirmed Guardians 3 will be his “swan song as Rocket.”

With Gunn announcing he’s done as Rocket, you’d think that would seal the deal, but actually those on the r/MarvelStudios subreddit are remaining on the “Rocket will be A-OK” train even in the face of this new, apparently damning evidence.

As Gunn’s Guardians co-star Vin Diesel likes to say over in the Fast franchise, it’s all about family.

Maybe Drax will be the one to bite the bullet instead?

The other most common prediction about Rocket’s fate is that he could de-evolve back into a normal raccoon by the film’s conclusion.

But to quote Star-Lord, that’s worse. That’s so much worse.

Will Rocket die or won’t he? The answer to this burning question, that’s been vexing fans for years now, will finally be revealed come Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s long-awaited release on May 5.
