Even with all the delays and reshoots, ‘The Flash’ still cost less than all of Zack Snyder’s DCU movies

But will it put that money where its mouth is?

Very few comic book blockbusters of the modern age have been through more ups and downs than The Flash, which is finally hitting theaters in June after first being announced all the way back in October of 2014.

In between those two points, the Scarlet Speedster’s solo debut has cycled through several directors, what’s reported to be dozens of writers, a couple of high-profile casting reshuffles, and of course the heavily-publicized misdeeds of star Ezra Miller, without even mentioning the extensive reshoots that saw the production stretch on for much longer than anticipated.

All that being said, it’s looking as if it’ll be worth the wait, with The Flash winning rave early reactions to potentially live up to its billing as one of the best superhero stories to come along in a long time. Despite suffering through so many ups, downs, trials, and tribulations, the movie didn’t come cheap. That being said, it was still cheaper than a Zack Snyder-directed effort.

The most recent estimates have pegged The Flash at around $220 million, slightly lower than the $225 million Man of Steel and well below the $275 million Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Even if you want to split hairs and disregard the $300 million total cost of Justice League, let’s say it was green lit with a budget of around $200 million. Once you factor in the additional costs handed over by HBO Max to cover the Snyder Cut, it’s still costlier.

Of course, films aren’t judged by how expensive they are, but there’s also the distinct chance The Flash will score superior reviews to Snyder’s DCU contributions, too.
