‘Evil Dead Rise’ elevates horror to new heights by correcting a consistent mistake the genre has been making

Changes are a-comin' to the genre.

One of the darkest clouds preventing the horror genre from reaching its brightest heights over the last few years has to do with the catalog’s glaring issues with perfecting gore. Excluding the gory magic of both Terrifier movies, it’s certainly no secret that the genre has tamed down its use of blood-splattered goodness, which classic franchises like Saw and Evil Dead absolutely dominated. Flash forward to now, and Evil Dead Rise is reintroducing a whirlwind of perfected gore that has left die-hards at a loss for words.

As reviews and reactions begin to pour in, the most-discussed topic in regard to horror’s latest venture refers to its over-the-top gory visuals and mind-numbing violence. And while there will always be a handful of naysayers insisting that horror films of this degree are nothing but “torture porn,” Lee Cronin’s supernatural extravaganza is well on its way to fixing prior mistakes and presenting a horror story like no other.

And if this collection of tweets is of any stark indication, then it’s clear that the film’s determined attention to creating a gory masterpiece has quickly won over the hearts and minds of horror fanatics across the globe.

Of course, all of this is not to say that the horror genre hasn’t perfectly mastered the art of gory violence in the past, with a slew of memorable staples still burned into our cerebrums. That being said, it’s now evident that Evil Dead Rise is dedicated to delivering a nightmarish experience that can only be consumed best in theaters.
