Ewan McGregor explains how ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ changed his view on ‘Star Wars’ following the prequel trilogy backlash

He really had a bad feeling about this, as it turns out.

While Ewan McGregor was never the target of toxic fan behavior back when the Star Wars prequel trilogy was coming out, that overall negativity still weighed heavily on his creative mood.

The galaxy far, far away community has always revered McGregor and his portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi. At his worst, the Scottish actor was a brilliant incarnation of the Jedi Master. At his best, he sometimes brought the late Alec Guinness back to life and embodied the Ben Kenobi everyone loved in all the ways that mattered.

Now, with Obi-Wan Kenobi finally resurrecting his version back to the franchise after almost 20 years, Ewan McGregor got to experience first-hand the fandom’s new love for the prequels. It even reflected positively on his work per what he told TheWrap, allowing him to perceive Star Wars in a completely new light.

“There’s been a profound change in my relationship with Star Wars and with the fans… and just in my feelings about it. The prequels were quite difficult to make and quite difficult to deal with after they came out.”

If that’s how McGregor felt, imagine what it must have been for Hayden Christensen, who bore the brunt force of all the character criticism. Fortunately, as McGregor put it, Obi-Wan Kenobi brought them back to Star Wars in a “really nice way,” so let’s hope that they can continue to ride on this new success wave with more projects.

We know Hayden will be back for Ahsoka later this year, but as of yet, there’s been no word of another season of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
