Fans react to Supergirl in ‘The Flash’ Super Bowl trailer

Our new Supergirl is here.

Ahead of this year’s Super Bowl, DC fans are finally getting their first look at the very delayed The Flash movie. The film’s star, Ezra Miller, has consistently made headlines since their casting but rarely for a good reason, and Tim Gunn’s decision to go through with the movie has not been without criticism. Regardless of the controversy, the film is coming and the trailer shows us we’ll be seeing multiple Flashes, Batmans (Michael Keaton anyone?), and we even see our first glimpse of Sasha Calle making her debut as Supergirl.

Supergirl appears in the trailer for roughly five seconds, but her appearance was the best part of the trailer for many fans. This is the first time the hero has appeared in a film since the 1984 Supergirl film and many took to Twitter to discuss her DCU debut.

While this is her first appearance in a live-action film since the ’80s, Supergirl had her own beloved CW show (aptly named Supergirl) and fans of the show were bound to compare Calle with the show’s star Melissa Benoist. Overall, the comparisons were positive as Twitter users seem to love both actors’ portrayals of the character.

Some noticed Supergirl saves (a version of) Batman from an attacker in the trailer, punching the villain and presumably killing them.

This scene already shows how different Supergirl is from her famous cousin, Superman. Clark Kent famously refuses to kill, while Supergirl does so quite casually in the trailer.

Fans also saw the hero will be going up against Zod in what is sure to be a crazy fight.

Some are already campaigning for her to be Supergirl in the announced Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow film.

The DCU is in the midst of a restructuring but if Calle’s performance in The Flash is as strong as these reactions suggest, we can definitely see her sticking around into the new era of DC films.
