If you paid attention in this week’s new – and final – trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwaldyou might have noticed that it revealed that one of the characters has a major connection to Voldemort. At one point, Ezra Miller’s Credence Barebones calls the name of Claudia Kim’s circus woman – “Nagini.” Put this together with the fact that she transforms into a snake after this and fans might be able to work out what’s going on here.

Yes, Kim’s playing Nagini, whom we’ve previously known as the loyal and vicious pet of Lord Voldemort. In The Deathly Hallows it’s revealed that Nagini’s a horcrux, but it was never suggested that she was actually a human being. That kind of makes it more tragic when Neville kills her with the Sword of Gryffindor.

Now that the cat – or snake, in this case – is out of the bag, Kim’s opened up to EW about what we can expect from this intriguing new take on a classic Harry Potter character. First off, the Avengers: Age of Ultron actress revealed that the human Nagini is far from the evil servant we’re familiar with.

“It will be so interesting to see another side of Nagini. You’ve only seen her as a Horcrux. In this, she’s a wonderful and vulnerable woman who wants to live. She wants to stay a human being and I think that’s a wonderful contrast to the character.”

As we know, though, Nagini’s fate is that she’ll be stuck in the form of a snake, something that she desperately fears in this movie.

“She does feel sometimes it’s not controllable. She is bound to [permanently] transform at some point to a beast so she feels this pressure that the clock is ticking.”

What exactly Nagini’s powers are, however, Kim is not at liberty to say at this point.

“She has powers that are yet to be explored. I can’t confirm she has powers like wizards have. And she doesn’t have a wand.”

As this trailer suggests, Nagini will mostly be paired up with Credence in Fantastic Beasts 2, as the runaway Obscurial and the snake girl will bond over these magical powers they struggle to control.

“Sometimes I introduce myself as ‘Credence’s only friend. It’s amazing these two broken souls are able to form some kind of friendship within the circus. Credence is special to her because he encourages her to use her power.”

With the film being the most hotly anticipated release this fallFantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is bound to clean up at the box office and perhaps even exceed the original, and from everything we’ve seen and heard so far, it truly looks as if we’re in for another wonderful adventure.
