‘Fast X’ being touted as the finale is already worthless when Vin Diesel is teasing more spin-offs

Not that we're surprised.

Even though most of the hype revolving around Fast X was focused on the 10th mainline installment marking the beginning of the end, did anyone really believe that The Fast Saga as a whole was in any danger of being tied off for good?

After all, it’s Universal’s most lucrative franchise that’s gearing up to pass the $7 billion mark, and while Dominic Toretto and the family aren’t going to be around forever, it was impossible to shake the feeling that there were inevitably more stories destined to be told in the same sandbox.

Well, to the surprise of what must be roughly nobody, Vin Diesel has taken mere days after Fast X‘s arrival in theaters to proudly proclaim to Variety that being the grand finale is pretty much worthless when a handful of spin-offs are already in the works.

“I started developing the female spin- off in 2017 with other spinoffs, and the sooner I deliver the finale, the sooner I can launch all the spin-offs.”

Michelle Rodriguez echoed that sentiment, even if she’s always been viewed as the focal point of any female-driven spin-off that emerges once the ending is over and done with.

“You pass the baton on. You take the back seat. You go passenger side. When it comes the next generation, you have to. It’s the only way to let them define the future.”

What we’re dealing with in actuality is Fast X being marketed on the back of it being the conclusion to the series, when it’s potentially only the first of a self-contained trilogy, which is then going to be followed by even more movies that take place in the same world and will no doubt come with the “Fast & Furious Presents” branding prefixed to Hobbs & Shaw.

13 entries on its own sounds like overkill, and it’s certainly feeling that way as the reception continues to dwindle each time out, but taking it any further than that is borderline ludicrous. Then again, that’s always been the way of The Fast Saga, so it does sort of make sense.
