Returning to his old stomping ground with garish bowling shirt in tow is John Turturro, who is far and away the creative driving force behind Going Places after directing, starring and writing the screenplay. Joel and Ethan Coen aren’t involved to our knowledge, though many are crossing fingers and toes in the hope that Jeff Bridges will swing by for a cameo as The Dude, White Russian in hand. He’s certainly been keeping long-time fans on their toes.
Set to arrive almost two decades after the release of cult favorite The Big Lebowski, plot specifics are being kept under lock and key. To sate your appetite for more info though, the official teaser confirms that Going Places will orbit around “two petty thieves, Turturro’s Jesus and Bobby Cannavale’s Petey, who compete to give a woman (Tautou) her first orgasm after she’s roped into their hijinks. Susan Sarandon also ends up in their company, playing a criminal who just got out after a long stint in prison.”
Though many believed Turturro was cooking up a remake of the 1974 French film of the same name, Going Places is indeed an offshoot of The Big Lebowski. We’ll be keeping tabs on the spinoff as it begins to gather pace, but tell us, are you excited by the second coming of Jesus Quintana? Do let us know.
