Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures assured us a while back that the first Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer would premiere last Saturday, and they were true to their word. But while we were expecting it to hit the internet, it turns out that it was instead exclusively screened for fans at CCXP in Brazil. My assumption was that it would make its way onto the web later that night, but we’re now five days out from it being shown and we still don’t have anything to feast on.
When can we expect to see it, then? Well, tipster Daniel RPK is pretty confident that Sony’s gearing up to release the trailer next week, though he can’t as yet give us an exact date (online speculation, however, points to the 18th). So while it’s nice to know that it is coming, we still don’t know exactly when we’re supposed to set our watches for.
I guess while this delay is frustrating to most, it must have made the Brazilian fans in attendance at CCXP feel ever more pleased with themselves. In fact, Tom Holland explained the decision for the trailer’s exclusivity at the event, saying:
“We debuted the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer just for you guys exclusively, because sometimes we just want to show our support, and you guys have been so amazing to us ever since I got this job.” Holland said. “And I guess we just wanted to come and say thank you really, and that was our way for Marvel and Sony to say thank you. And I hope you enjoyed it. We loved it. It’s amazing to see something you worked so hard on become a reality, and then share it with the people who really want to see it. So again, thank you for having us, CCXP has been amazing.”
But maybe we’re being a little too greedy. After all, last week served up some seriously juicy big MCU reveals for 2019, with the latest Captain Marvel trailer dropping Monday, before the long-awaited first teaser for Avengers: Endgame arrived on Friday. Perhaps the studio wants to parcel the hype out a bit and give us a chance to properly process these before getting us all excited for Spider-Man.
In the end, maybe the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer’s delayed release might even prove beneficial in generating fan enthusiasm, since it’s no longer having to follow on from what was surely most hyped-up trailer of the year.
